Another thing I noticed when I was in Thailand last time made me feel a lot better about the country then I did on my first impression. My first impression was that here is a country that’s taken all the bad influence from the west in terms of materialistic development and combined with a type of environmental ignorance that yield a frightening prospect for the Asian world.
Just a few days in BKK will leave nearly anyone with the same impression. With all the oversized shopping malls filled with girls in skimpy clothing., I just didn’t get a sense of Buddhism that their country claims to.
But, in my most recent visit I noticed something that may have some hopeful prospect to it. I noticed that Al-gores latest movie on the environment was getting a lot of hype, and was being bough up in a storm. Thanks to the good translation and optional subtitles, the information is getting to a population that could benefit greatly from it.
